MELBOURNE, FL - Former Cove golf standout Drew Dewald shot a second-best final round score of 67 to finish 14th overall and help his McLennan Community College Highlanders capture their fourth NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf National Championship at the par-72, 7,127-yard Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida last week.
The team shot a combined 1,128 (290-277-281-280) to finish eight strokes in front of second-place finishers Western Texas.
“I had a lot of coaches and even other players tell me that we had one of the best five-ball golf teams you could imagine,” MCC head coach Vince Clark said to members of the media. “Meaning, any one of our five guys are capable of going out there and putting up a low score. We had great depth, not just one or two positions. That’s the essence of team golf.
