Copperas Cove track teams compete in Temple Relays

With the District 12-6A meet just around the corner on April 11th and 13th and Leo Buckley Stadium in Killeen, the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs and Lady Dawgs got one more dress rehearsal to prepare for the district meet in hopes of qualifying for the 11/12-6A Area Meet set for Saturday, April 16 at Midway High School.
The Bulldawgs varsity boys finished fourth overall with 68.5 total points behind Ellison (134), Bryan (75) and Waco Midway (73) while the Lady Dawgs finished seventh with 44 points. Host Temple won the meet with 140 points, followed by Bryan (92) and Ellison (72).
Seniors Stephan Glass and Jaylen Donnell led the Bulldawgs’ varsity boys’ team with second-place finishes. Glass won silver in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.67 seconds behind Bryan’s Otis Wright (15.58 seconds). Donnell finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 1.50 inches behind Midway’s Tyler Gulley (43 feet, 3 inches).
Junior Dayne Holden added a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.43 seconds and junior Bryce Smith finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet even.
The Lady Dawgs were led by a second-place finish by the 4x100m relay team with a time of 49.82 seconds behind Bryan (49.32 seconds) and a pair of second-place finishes by senior Joem Toala in the discus (98 feet, 5 inches) and Shot Put (36 feet, 5.5 inches, along with a third-place finish by senior Kyra Gaston in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet even. Shoemaker’s Angelique Gonzalez won the event with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.
Gaston also had a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (34 feet, 4.75 inches and sophomore A’mya Moss added a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 100m dash (13.00 seconds) and the long jump (17 feet, 2 inches).
The JV boys were led with first-place finishes by Jalen McAdams in the 200m dash (23.24 seconds) and a 1-2-3 finish in the triple jump with William Chappell winning the event with a mark of 41 feet, 0.5 inches followed by Trevon Hodge (40 feet), and Damarquos Green (39 feet, 11 inches). Ian MacDonald also notched a pair of second-place finishes with a leap of 20 feet, 0.5 inches in the long jump and a time of 55.33 seconds in the 400m dash. Daevion Phillips also had a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.03 seconds and Josh Butler earned third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 6 inches.
The JV girls were led by Zahriyah Coleman Dow with a first-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches. Julianna Sanchez added a second-place finish in the 3,200m run with a time of 14 minutes, 6.35 seconds, Amaiyah Jett notched a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 18.47 seconds, while Leela Fitzpatrick finished second in th shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 6.50 inches. The 4x100m relay team finished second with a time of 49.82, and the 4x200m relay team finished third with a mark of 52.86. Iyanna Watts also earned the bronze with a third-place throw of 74 feet, 3.50 inches in the discus.

The Bulldawgs and Lady Dawgs will get back to action at Leo Buckley Stadium on Monday April 11 for day one of the District 12-6A meet.
