The Copperas Cove Bulldawgs JV Gold team gave fans a show Thursday night as they averaged more than 12 yards per play en route to amasing 543 yards of total offense on just 45 plays, paced by running backs Malcolm Roberts and Trey Fossett who combined for 438 yards and five touchdowns in the win.

Leading by just six points heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldawgs began to open their lead as they scored on a two-yard touchdown run by Fossett to end a long drive as the fourth quarter began, on their way to 18 points in the quarter to hold off the surging Roos as the two teams combined for 32 points in the fourth quarter alone.

After Cove’s Kevin Pontius forced a Killeen fumble and Kent Allen recovered it at the Killeen 45 and a penalty moved Cove back into their own territory, a 60-yard pass from David Flores to Thomas Swiley set up the Bulldawgs at the two-yard line and Fossett finished it off for a 28-14 lead after the Roberts conversion run.

The Roos answered with a scoring drive of their own on a quarterback keeper from five yards out to pull back within a score 28-28.

The Dawgs responded with a 55-yard scoring drive capped by a 28-yard touchdown run by Roberts and a two-point run by Fossett for a 34-20 Cove lead with 3:44 left in the game. Runs by Roberts and Fossett set up the score.

The Roos cut the lead again on their next possession with an eight-yard pitch and catch to cap their 34-yard drive after a 39-yard kickoff return gave them a short field.

An onside kick attempt gave Cove a short field on their next possession and they returned the favor with a three-play scoring drive finished by a 33-yard touchdown run by Fossett to make it 40-28 with 1:13 remaining.

The Bulldawgs opened the scoring with a 10-play, 69-yard scoring drive that put the Dawgs up 6-0 with 3:21 left in the first quarter.

The Roos took the lead on a 39-yard touchdown pass on 4th and 5 with 43 seconds left in the first quarter.

Cove responded with a two-play scoring drive that resulted in an 87-yard touchdown

run by Roberts for a 14-8 lead with 16 seconds left in the period.

The Roos responded with a seven-play, 66-yard scoring drive capped by a two-yard touchdown run to make it 14-14 with 7:14 left in the first half.

The Dawgs broke the tie with one minute left in the half on a one-yard quarterback keeper by Blaine Butler with the conversion run by Fossett.

Roberts finished with 280 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries while Fossett had 158 yards and two scores on 13 carries.

Flores and Butler were a combined 3 for 5 passing for 101 yards to lead the Dawgs. Swiley led the wideouts with one catch for 60 yards while Alvone Crawford added one for 34 yards.

Pontious led the Bulldawgs’ defense with seven tackles, including two for losses, followed by Coffa Tullensru (6 tackles) and Kaidir Cox (5 tackles, .5 TFL).

The JV Blue lost the opening contest of the double-header to the Mart Panthers 40- 22.
