SGM George R. Wilson, USA, Ret., 79, of Copperas Cove, passed away on Sunday May 11, 2014 in Killeen. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel of Copperas Cove. Burial following at Killeen Memorial Park, 3516 Lake Road in Killeen. Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 5-7. George was born on September 18, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK to the late William and Hattie Nichols Wilson. He graduated from Oklahoma City High School. George joined the United States Navy at an early age and served for 4 years before joining the United States Army. He served his country faithfully for 30 years retiring at Ft Hood and settling in Copperas Cove. While stationed in Germany he met Helga Korell and they married on August 8, 1963 in Germany. He was a lifelong member of both the VFW and the DAV. George was also an active Mason. He was a soldier in his heart even after retirement. George was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J.D. Wilson and a sister, Lee Daugherty. George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helga Wilson of Copperas Cove; son, Ronald G. Wilson of Germany; daughter, Nancy L. Lopez, of Schertz, TX; brothers, William Wilson, Carl Green and Charlie Green all of Oklahoma City, OK and 4 grandchildren.
