Sammie Sweed

Sammie C. Sweed, 82, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 in Copperas Cove. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Copperas Cove with burial will follow at Killeen Memorial Park. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service on Saturday.
 
Sammie was born in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Sam Bryant, Jr. and Carrie Bell Boyd Bryant. She attended elementary and secondary school in and around Plain Dealing. At a very young age she made the decision to serve God and confessed Jesus Christ is Lord. Sammie loved the Lord and taught her children His Word. During her high school years her family moved to Houston, Texas where she graduated from Jack Yates High School. Sammie met and married Thomas Sweed, Jr. Their union welcomed seven children. Sammie worked as a nurse for several years before putting her sewing talent to work as a tailor.
 
After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree at Colorado University, Sammie decided to teach. She soon earned her Master’s Degree at Prairie View A&M University. She taught school in both Denver Public Schools and Houston Independent School District.
 
Sammie is a member of Adventist Mission Center. Prior to her illness and relocation she attended church regularly.
 
Preceding her in death are father; mother; husband; sons, David and Joseph Sweed; daughter, Veda Edwards; son-in-law, Eli Edwards; and daughter-in-law, Toni Sweed.
 
Sammie leaves to mourn her passing a sister, Palestine Bryant Hines of Houston, Texas; son, James Sweed (Flora) of Denver, Colorado; three daughters, Patsy Thorn (Juan) of Schertz, Texas, Eve Sweed of San Antonio, Texas, and Corlis Cheek (John) of Killeen, Texas; four grandsons, Juan Thorn II, Joseph Sweed II, Brian Sweed, and Quennel Cheek; five granddaughters, Delilah Edmondson, Dr. Kendra Thorn, Jamila Sweed, Demetria Stringer, and Bridgette Posey; extended children, Thomasyna Sweed, Thomas G. Sweed; and twenty great-grandchildren. God also richly blessed her with a host of family and friends.
