John Vose

June 29, 1951 ~ September 3, 2015

John Vose, CW3, US Army, (Ret.) age 64, of Copperas Cove, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2015 in Temple after a two and a half year battle with cancer. Visitation with the family was held from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove. Private inurnment with full military honors will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. John was born on June 29, 1951 in Bangor, Maine to the late Harmon and Helen Morrison Vose. He graduated from Mt. View High School in Maine. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in German from the University of Maine - Orono. His first year of college, he met the love of his life, Suzanne St. Pierre. They married in 1973 after they graduated. Together, they joined the Army in 1974. He served for over 20 years and retired as CW3 in 1995 from Ft. Hood. He and his wife have resided in Copperas Cove since 1986. After his military retirement, he became a teacher and taught fifth and sixth grade Science with the Copperas Cove I.S.D. for 20 years. During his tenure at Cove I.S.D. he earned his Master’s Degree of Education in Counseling. He became involved with Boy Scouts when his son became a Tiger Cub. He saw his son earn the rank of Eagle Scout and continued this passion with his two grandsons and son-in-law until his death. He was a wonderful provider for his family in every way. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sue Vose; son, Erik Vose and wife, Cassie Vorbach of Modesto, CA; daughter, Heather Smith and husband, Jerry of Copperas Cove; brother, Ralph Vose and wife, Elizabeth of Sanford, ME; three grandchildren, Elijah, Micah and Phoebe Smith. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in one of the two following ways: Next time you see Boy Scouts selling popcorn, make a donation or buy a bag. Tell them it’s for John or make a contribution to Refuge Ministries in John’s name. All money received in his name will go into a fund that will be established to help pay for activities, registration, and supplies for boys that need financial help that join the Trail Life USA Unit being charted by Refuge Ministries.
