Donald W. Knox, Sr., age 79, of Copperas Cove passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove with burial following at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery. A Rosary will be held on Thursday at Scott’s Funeral Home of Copperas Cove at 5:00 pm with visitation following until 7:00 pm.
Donald was born on April 27, 1937 in Athens, Ohio to the late Woodrow and Donna Love Knox. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and he served his country for over 20 years He retired in 1977 as a SFC. While in the service, he met his wife Joan Holtz and they married on December 31, 1958 in Sommers Point, NJ. They moved to Copperas Cove in 1973 and Donald worked for the city of Copperas Cove for 16 years and retired again in 1997. In his retirement, he drove a bus for the Headstart program for 11 years. Donald and Joan were faithful members of Holy Family Catholic Church for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Copperas Cove.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dwayne Knox in 1980; sisters, Jennie Woodruff, Freda Howard and Bonnie Knox and a granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Knox.
Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Knox; sons, Dr. Donald Knox, Jr. and wife, Linda of Wichita Falls, TX; Darryl J. Knox of Belton; grandchildren Andrea (Knox) Elliott and Alexander Knox and his four great-grandchildren, Donovan Elliot, Vincent Elliot, Edmund Elliot, and Bryson Knox.
