A man has been arrested by Killeen police after an early morning shooting in the 700 block of Constitution Drive in Copperas Cove left a 29-year-old female dead.
Early Thursday afternoon, the Copperas Cove Police Department issued a media release.
According to Copperas Cove police, at approximately 12:28 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Constitution Dr in. reference to a reported shooting.
“Upon arrival, officers located a 29-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until personnel from Copperas Cove EMS arrived. Despite those efforts, the victim succumbed to her injuries,” stated Lt. Rick Counter.
“A witness identified the shooter, who was known to the victim, and provided officers with a description of the suspect’s vehicle. The information was immediately broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Officers with the Killeen Police Department later located the suspect and took him into custody.”
As of the time of media release, the man was being held at the Killeen Police Department on a charge of murder, along with additional charges related to his arrest by the Killeen Police Department.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
“This investigation remains active. The initial charge is subject to enhancement or additional charges as further evidence is reviewed by the Coryell County District Attorney’s Office. Additional information will be released as it becomes available,” stated Lt. Counter.
