Copperas Cove alum celebrates chiropractic clinic opening

Southern Hills Chiropractic Clinic held a grand opening and ribbon cutting Saturday morning.

The new chiropractic office is located at 1856 Patriot Cir. and is owned and operated by Cove alum Dr. Cody Elenz.

Elenz graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 2011 and went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho, his master’s from Lamar University and his doctorate from Parker University.

Coming back to Copperas Cove to open his own business was the next step in his journey.

“It has been a very long road, but I think the most fun part has been the journey, the journey that got us here,” Elenz said. “I’ve enjoyed every bit of it. It’s grown me as a person, it’s grown me as a business owner and it’s grown me to have a lot of appreciation for kind of everything I have now, so it’s only fueled more fire for a better business and kind of a better opportunity for the community.”

Elenz played football in high school and college and got his master’s degree in kinesiology. Choosing the field of chiropractic care came about because Elenz wanted to be “answering the questions that nobody ever had the answers to,” he said. “It always seemed like a pill or a surgery was a good idea, but it never had good results, so I wanted to find where I could go and where I could find the results, and this is where I found them.”

Elenz gave a tour of the facility on Saturday. The building features four adjustment rooms and two massage therapy rooms plus a decompression room.

“We built the office to grow into,” Elenz said. “We didn’t want to build too small and not have the ability to grow.”

In addition to the different exam rooms, there is also a small gym area for the active therapy, which Elenz said is similar to physical therapy.

“My philosophy is to adjust the spine, get everything back in line, and then adjust the muscles,” Elenz said.

Elenz also plans to practice chiropractic care on animals, working through local veterinarians.

“They have a spine, just like humans,” Elenz said. “So, they go through a lot of trauma and it’s a very easy way, and they respond very, very well to it. They have little microtraumas and mal-positions and stuff just like people do.”

Saturday’s grand opening was held exactly one year and one day after the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility.

In addition to Elenz, there are two staff members, and the clinic is looking to add two massage therapists by the end of the month.

In attendance at the grand opening was Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Jonas Titas. The EDC worked alongside Elenz to make his dream a reality.

“This is exactly what we want,” Titas said. “This is a home-grown family that wants to invest in Copperas Cove, wants to provide services for the local citizens, that wants to invest here locally, and this is new kind of area of growth for our community, so this is kind of the direction we really are excited to see the city go.”
