BELTON – A lunch and travel snafu couldn’t keep the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs from punching their third trip in four years to the Texas State 7-on-7 State Tournament to be held July 7-9 at Veteran’s Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.

The Dawgs rallied back from a 21-6 deficit against the Ellison Eagles to clinch a trip to the state tournament with a 34-28 win.

“They started out sluggish but they gathered together and that was a good comeback win,” said Cove 7-on-7 coach Tyrone McGriff. “We just need to build on this confidence. Last year we didn’t make it to state. We haven’t made it since Manny Harris was here and we’ve only made it twice in the past four or five years to that says a lot for what we’re doing.”
