Copperas Cove city council calls for June 15 runoff election

The Copperas Cove city council canvassed the results of the May 4 special election for city council Place 5 at a special meeting on Monday.

The council also called for a runoff between the top two vote-getters, Dale Treadway and Timothy Traeger.

Treadway received 31.73 percent, or 568 votes, and Traeger received 28.48 percent, or 491 votes.

According to Copperas Cove city charter, a winning candidate must receive a minimum of 50 percent-plus one of the votes.

Saturday, June 15, 2024 is the runoff election date.

Early voting will be held from June 3-7 and June 10-11, with polls open 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Voting Center, located at 508 B Cove Terrace Shopping Center.

Election day voting will also be at the Copperas Cove Voting Center, with polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., on Saturday, June 15.

Applications for early voting ballot by mail must be received no later than the close of business on June 4, 2024.

The cost estimate to the City of Copperas Cove for the runoff election is $7,007.

The term of office for Place 5 expires in November 2025.
