Chamorro association holds Guam liberation day

By PAMELA GRANT not included. Hundreds gathered to celebrate the anniversary of Guam’s liberation. US Marines liberated Guam from the Japanese during WWII. The Chamorro associationof Central Texas celebrated their 71st Guam liberation potluck event Saturday at Ogletree Gap in Copperas Cove. People came to the event from as far as Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas to celebrate the event and their heritage.“It’s to remember all of those who had fallen during the invasion of the Japanese and the occupation during WWII. It also acknowledges our culture and ethnicity,” said Joe Acfalle who helped put on the celebration. “For me, I celebrate this day to be thankful that I’m free…On July 21, 1944, if it wasn’t for the Americans liberating the island, I wouldn’t be here today. A lot of us wouldn’t be here today.”
