From the Vault: '59, '69, '79

To commemorate the 125th year of publication of the Copperas Cove Leader-Press in 2019, every Friday the Leader-Press will share snippets from the community’s history over the past 60 years in From the Vault.

40 years ago, in the Copperas Cove Leader
A car wash in the Food Fare parking lot was held for the varsity cheerleaders and the Copperettes to raise funds for camps to be held at Texas State University. Along with the work, a little horseplay and an all-around good time was had by all. 
Kendall Miller, son of retired Lt. Col. And Mrs. Thomas E. Miller, is one of 56 high school students attending Southern Methodist University’s 23rd annual IvN Mathematics Seminar. Students from all over the United States attended. 

50 years ago, in the Copperas Cove Press 
The Future Homemakers of America adopted their 1969-70 campaign to help servicemen overseas. A list of items selected to collect overseas included blank assorted greeting cards, wallet size calendars, Q-tips, key chains, and more. Anyone wanting to make a donation should contact the Copperas Cove High School homemaking department.  
 
60 years ago, in the Copperas Cove Courier
The Copperas Cove Quarterback Club will kick off the new football season with a meeting Monday night at 500 at the School House. Al members are urged to be present for this first meeting of the new school year. 
A record 875 enrolled at the Copperas Cove school, with present facilities having space for about 750 students. It will probably be necessary, according to a school board member, to make some arrangements for temporary facilities to house some of the students. This year’s enrollment is expected to set an all time high for the Cove school system.
