Five Hills Art Festival signs go up

Tall directional signs were put up on Friday around Copperas Cove, all pointing the way toward City Park, the location of the Five Hills Art Guild’s 3rd annual Five Hills Art Festival on March 16-17.
The signs might look familiar to many in Copperas Cove and the signs didn’t initially get the reaction that the art guild had intended.
Some questioned if the annual Rabbit Fest, held by the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce, had been moved to March.
That isn’t the case at all, said Five Hills Art Festival chair, Linda Lapierre. The Five Hills Art Festival is an entirely different festival, held by an entirely different group.
“Yes, those are the signs used for Rabbit Fest, but the guild repurposed the signs for our festival, adding our information,” explained Lapierre. “The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce is one of our gold sponsors and has generously allowed us borrow their directional signs for our festival.”
This year, the festival’s theme is Go Green!, so Lapierre thought it most appropriate that the guild repurposed the chamber’s signs temporarily for its festival.
The Five Hills Art Festival starts at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 16, with artists from around Central Texas and beyond setting up in the park to show and sell their work. Friday night features a step team competition, with teams from high schools in Copperas Cove and Killeen competing, and a performance by Pandemonium Steel Drum Band of Shoemaker High School.
The festival resumes on Saturday, March 17, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., with more live entertainment to include the Central Texas Bellydance Association, the Double C’s Square Dancers, as well as bands The Storm’s I, Rare Dog, and Katy Starr with D/Madness. Food trucks will also be on site, to include Steak Express, Big Dog BBQ, Snofellas, and Er’ Thang Cajun.
