UIL’s big reveal is only 48 hours away

Cup o Joe | Big Joe Lombardi

This is the city.  Copperas Cove, Texas.  It’s a nice town.  Lots of fine, hard-working folks live here.  Many of them have children who proudly compete in the blue and gold of Copperas Cove High School.  That’s where I come in.  I write about and broadcast sports.
Thursday, Feb. 1 should be a nice day in Copperas Cove with sunshine and 73 for a high.  It might be a little cool that morning, just right to stay glued to social media, as the University Interscholastic League unveils its Texas map with pushpins and rubber bands denoting who’s going where in the district realignment which happens every two years.  There’ll be griping and appeals, with most based on travel issues, but others over the desire to get a better deal when it comes to winning and losing.
So, what I’ve heard in the coffee shops is what will happen to Copperas Cove?  No way to know until Thursday, since the UIL realignment is an even more closely guarded secret than what Bill Belichick really knows about Tom Brady’s hurt hand.  If you want rumors, though...
Some are saying that Temple, Waco and Bryan are all back in Class 6A, which might send them our way, which, if it’s true, could leave the Dawgs with one non-district game. Another scenario has Midway heading north.  I don’t buy either one, but I always remember those off-the-wall deals where Cove was sent 92 miles to Brownwood instead of 19 miles to Lampasas, or moved from Region II to Region I, or whatever it was, in my opinion, on account of girls’ basketball.
With the UIL, you never know.
Go Dawgs!
