Three positions on the Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees are up for election on Nov. 7, to include places 5, 6, and 7.
Filing for all three positions closed on Monday at 5 p.m., and two of the three positions have contested races.
For Place 5 on the board of trustees, Bob Weiss is the current board appointee who was named to the spot after the resignation of Doug Cook. This election is to elect a candidate to complete the remainder of the term, through November 2019.
Weiss filed to run for the position, as did Jeffrey Gorres. Weiss has been a board member prior to his appointment, and is a retired educator. Gorres, who filed on Monday, is a retired Lt. Colonel.
Places 6 and 7 are currently held by Jim Copeland and Dr. Karen Harrison, respectively.
Copeland is a retired educator and retired Air Force. John Gallen, also a retired teacher and retired military, filed on Monday to run against Copeland for place 6.
Harrison, who is completing her second three-year term on the board, is running unopposed for place 7.
A drawing for places on the November 7 ballot will take place on Tuesday, August 29 at 9 a.m., at the CCISD superintendent’s office in the district’s administration building, located at 703 W. Ave. D.
