Andy Remedies and Betina Cash, owners of the Cove Theater, announced on Tuesday, May 5 that they are closing the theater effective May 31.
“We have loved running the theater and meeting so many incredible performers and customers. At this time, we need to focus our energies elsewhere and take advantage of our equity in other businesses, Herb & Earnie’s and Main St. Mercantile,” the couple announced on their social media page.
“This decision wasn’t made lightly or hastily. We have enjoyed bringing live entertainment of all sorts to Cove while sparking a revitalization in downtown.
“Downtown Cove is full of potential with amazing business owners and we are proud of the role The Cove Theater played in that.”
They thanked the community and patrons for support over the past five years.
In addition to first-run movies, the couple would show older movies. They sought sponsorships and funding via custom wall tile purchases and ad purchases from businesses and individuals that were run during movie previews.
The theater featured concessions, along with menu options from their restaurant.
In addition to movies, the theater would host comedy and burlesque events and opened its doors to local music performers looking for a stage.
However, this may not be the end of the theater, if an interested buyer steps up.
“Hopefully an interested party will reach out and purchase our inventory and equipment to continue The Cove Theater,” the couple said.
In addition to the theater, the couples has other business ventures downtown on South Main Street, to include Herb & Earnie’s Diner, and a vendor market, The Main St. Mercantile. Both remain open for business. The custom wall tiles are set to be installed at the diner, or those who purchased tlles are also welcome to pick them up.
