Lady Dawgs earn early Christmas present

Haynes’ free throws propel Cove to signature district win over Ellison 70-65

Lady Bulldawgs’ fans and players were likely feeling a bit of déjà vu of their loss to Killeen in the district opener after watching a seven-point fourth-quarter advantage deteriorate to just one point with 1:08 left to play Friday night against Ellison. A strong finish, however, propelled the Lady Dawgs to a signature 70-65 win over the backto- back district champion Lady Eagles’ squad and sent them into the holiday break with confidence. “We’re definitely excited about this win,” said Copperas Cove head basketball coach Eldridge McAdams. “It’s a good Christmas present, but we’ve got to keep rolling. Next time, when we go to their place, they are definitely going to be gunning for us. We’ve done something that hasn’t been done in the last two district seasons.”
