UT Arlington’s Qiana Canete hits against Incarnate Word as her Mavericks hosted the Lady Cardinals Friday in Arlington.

Former Lady Dawgs battle each other in college

Former Copperas Cove volleyball standouts Qiana Canete and Bryaunea Hall shared the court again last Friday – but this time they were on opposite sides of the net. Canete and the UT Arlington Lady Mavericks hosted Hall and the Incarnate Word Cardinals during the College Park Maverick Classic. Canete, a 2013 all-state selection, and her Lady Mavs team bested Hall and the Lady Cardinals three sets to none (25-8, 25-17, 25-18). Canete held the edge on the stat sheet as well. She recorded seven kills on 23 attacks and added 12 digs and four block assists. Hall didn’t see as much playing time as Canete but still recorded two kills on seven attacks. It didn’t take long for the two to go nose to nose either. With UT Arlington up 12-6, Hall went for an attack with Canete defending. Hall was unable to find floor on that attempt, recording an attack error.
