Fall athletic season in full swing this weekend

The fall athletic season is officially underway with volleyball and team tennis in full swing along with the cross country and football teams getting into their first action against another team today.
 
The Lady Dawgs Volleyball program has raced out to an 8-4 start. After beginning the season with two tough losses to state-ranked opponents, they have reeled off eight wins in their last 10 matches to improve to 8-4 with just seven wins remaining for head coach Cari Lowery to claim her 700th career victory.
 
Lowery’s most recent victory, no. 593, came on Tuesday in Lorena where the Lady Dawgs outlasted the Lorena Lady Leopards, ranked No. 10 in Class 4A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
 
The Lady Dawgs were led by sophomore Aiden Chace who led in aces (3), blocks (4) and kills (15) in the four-set victory (25-18, 24-26, 25-16, 25-22).
 
Senior Kiarrah Childers had a game-high 35 assists and senior Aniessa Vega led the back row defense with 22 digs.
 
Madison Wasiak, Aviyon Wilborn and Chace added 18, 17 and 13 digs, respectively. Senior Brianna Childers added 13 kills while sophomore Jada Close and senior Dazsa Braddock added five each.
 
The Lady Dawgs are currently playing in the Bastrop tournament with win No. 700 expected to come tomorrow. The Lady Dawgs had games scheduled for non, 2:15 pm and 6 pm (results unavailable at press time).
 
The Dawg Tennis team gets back underway this morning as well with the Midway Team Tennis Tournament held at Midway and Robinson High Schools.
 
The Dawgs have amassed an 8-1 record in the first two weeks of action.
 
The Dawgs will take on host Midway in the early match beginning at 8:30 am before travelling across town to Robinson High School to face Dennison at 1:30 p.m. Play will resume at 8:30 Saturday morning with a match against Robinson at Robinson before a placement match at 1:30 p.m.
 
The Cove cross country team officially kicked off their season with the Temple Cross Country tournament at Lions Park in Temple.
 
Last, but not least, the Bulldawgs football team travels to Shotwell Stadium in Abilene to face off with the Eagles in the first live action against someone other than a Bulldawg.
 
The varsity will get underway at 11:30 a.m. with the junior varsity following at 1:30 p.m. and the freshmen closing out the scrimmage at 3 p.m.
