Epic Battle

Lady Dawgs fall to Midway in five-set thriller

By TJ MAXWELL

On paper, the showdown between No. 25 Copperas Cove and No. 23 Waco Midway looked to be an epic battle between the two top programs in 12-6A. What ensued on Tuesday night proved even better than advertised. The Lady Dawgs (27-9, 2-1) and Pantherettes (27-7, 4-0) combined for 135 kills and 223 digs in a back-andforth, 2.5 hour, five-set thriller at Bulldawg Gymnasium on Tuesday. “It was a great match and we had opportunities,” said Copperas Cove head coach Cari Lowery. “I’m proud of them because we started every single game at a deficit and had to fight back. I’m not proud that we started in a deficit, but I’m proud that they fought back. We needed a game like that. We haven’t had a five-game match all year. That’s going to be good for us going into the playoffs, hopefully.
