The Copperas Cove Dawgs and Lady Dawgs soccer programs came up short in their district contest against Belton on Tuesday. The boys were under fire all night by the Belton offense with goalkeeper Erik Frazer recording five saves in the first 15 minutes of action. Two of the Belton shots on goal were able to find net within the first nine minutes of play and they would add another just before halftime to take a 3-0 lead. The Bulldawgs broke the scoreless streak with a Billy Horton goal off an Andrew Chapman assist with 37:48 remaining in the contest. Belton responded with goals at the 29:31 mark, the 17:43 mark, the 9:03 mark and the 4:03 mark to take a 7-1 victory at Bulldawg Stadium. Frazer had eight saves in the first half and six more in the second half. Devante Purnell, Issac Griffin and Eric Hall each had shots on goal in the contest for Cove. The story was similar for the Lady Dagws at Belton. The Lady Dawgs were shutout of their contest at Belton as they opened the second round of district play on the road. The 9-0 loss drops their district record to 4-4. Both teams prepare for Ellison on Friday night. The Lady Dawgs host Ellison in a game they need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Dawgs will travel to Ellison to face the Eagles.
