CCHS cheerleaders sweep UCA camp awards

For senior and CCHS cheer captain Kamryn Mayberry, summer Universal Cheer Association camp was bitter sweet. Although selected as an All-American cheerleader resulting in additional performance opportunities, Mayberry knows her high school cheer career is coming to an end this year.

“This year at cheer camp, I’m able to say it was one to remember. For one, it was my last but also one of the best,” Mayberry said. “After starting with a rough couple of days, my team was able to push themselves and place in the top three for each category of the competition.”

The varsity team competed against nine teams in the camp held at Texas A&M in College Station. The Cove team won first place in the Cheer Division, 3rd place in the Extreme Routine category, a trophy for Most Improved Varsity Squad and a Superior Team trophy. The varsity cheerleaders also brought home a spirit stick and three ribbons for their work during the week. The CCHS mascot, Sparkles, which is Cali Jernigan, won a trophy for Most Improved Mascot at camp.
