KILLEEN – Seniors Tim Bechtold (3-for-5, 5R, 2RBI, 2BB, HR), Terrance Chamberlin (4-for-6, 4R, 3RBI) and Josh Carbajal 2-for-4, 3R, 8RBI, 2BB, HR) were a combined 9-for-14 with 12 runs, 13 RBIs, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and four walks as the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs’ baseball team pounded out 23 runs on 16 hits to run past the Killeen Kangaroos 23-10 to open District 12-6A action on Tuesday.

Bechtold scored the first run of the game for the Dawgs on a ground out by Carbajal in the top of first.

Bechtold added the second run on a solo home run to begin a four-run in the top of the third inning to tie the game at 2-all after a single by Killeen’s Kevin Vargus scored Mario Gonzalez and Ely Valderrama-Santana scored on a passed ball. Another ground out by Carbajal scored Michael Hays, a sacrifice fly by Tyler Ingram scored Chamberlin and Cameron Johnson doubled to score Neeko Kirk.

After Killeen scored three runs in the bottom half of the third, the Bulldawgs blew the game wide open with 10 runs over the next two innings for a 16-5 advantage.

Several errors and a single by Ingram helped the Dawgs plate four runs in the fourth inning and a three-run triple by Carbajal put the Dawgs up 13-5 in the fifth.

Doubles by Chamberlin and Kirk helped plate three more runners in the inning.

Three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth closed the gap for Killeen to 17-10 but a three-run home run by Carbajal pushed Cove’s lead to 22-10 and an RBI single by Caleb Jones scored Chamberlin to end the onslaught.

Also contributing to the Cove offense were Kirk (2-for-5, 2R, RBI, 2B, BB), Johnson (2-for-4, 2B, RBI), Ingram (1-for-3, R, 2RBI, BB), Jeremi Hawkins (1-for-3, 3R, 3BB), Jones (1-for-1, RBI) and Hays (0-for-1, 5R, 4BB).
