Copperas Cove Lady Dawgs from left, Lexia Perez, Shanna Young, Raven Dickerson, Savannah Cook and Ciara Cheadle are all smiles after their 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-12) sweep of the Horn Lady Jags on Tuesday. The win puts Cove in the Regional Quarterfinals for the first time in eight years. The Lady Dawgs have a tough quarterfinal matchup against 10th-ranked Richardson Pearce tonight at Hillsboro High School. The first serve it tentatively set for 7 p.m.

Team effort guides Cove past Horn for first Regional bid in almost a decade

It didn’t take long to see that the Copperas Cove Lady Dawg volleyball team was lazer-focused on the task at hand. The nerves from their first playoff endeavor had dissipated and they were ready to roll, and that they did, right over Mesquite Horn 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-12). “Not so many nerves tonight,” said Copperas Cove head coach Cari Lowery about her team’s performance. “A lot of stuff went right. We passed the ball pretty consistently and serving was good. We remembered what they were going to do and we handled it.
