Marcelia “Marcy” Annette Coohon Hughes, age 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Brenham Texas. Marcy was born March 23, 1938 in El Monte, California and as a young child moved to Sturgis, Michigan where she lived until she married and briefly resided in California, New York, Germany, but ultimately called Copperas Cove, Texas home. Marcy recently moved to the town of Brenham, Texas to live near one of her daughters, Mona. Marcy worked for many years with the Department of  Veteran’s Affairs in Temple, Texas and as a government services employee in California, Germany, and at Fort Hood, Texas. Known for never meeting a stranger, her sense of humor, gravelly voice, and for her affection for and collection of mice figurines, many knew her by the nickname of “Mousie.” The love of her life were her children whom she took enormous pride in chatting about and updating friends and neighbors about their successes. She loved to spend time knitting, caring for her yard, spending time with her friends, and was an avid participant with the American Association of Retired People (AARP) and the Red Hat Society. Marcy will be missed by her family, friends, and former co-workers having made a lasting impression with those that knew her. Recurring bouts with ailing health never seemed to keep Marcy down, always remaining optimistic, loving, and friendly she will be missed by all of those who knew her and were the recipients of her little hugs and friendly jabs. Marcy is survived by her eldest daughter Julie McRee (Husband - Chad) of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter Mona Whitehead (Husband - Word) of Brenham, Texas; son Clifford Walsh (Wife - Ashley) of Austin, Texas. She has four grandchildren; Micaela Massacci (Husband- Jake) of Mansfield Texas, Meaghan McRee of Greensboro, North Carolina; Zachary and Brooklynn Walsh of Austin, Texas.
