Joseph Edward Palumbo, age 85, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Copperas Cove, Texas. Visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church 704 M. L. King, Jr. Dr. Copperas Cove. Funeral service will be Monday, January 2, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Naomi Ingrim officiating.
 
Mr. Palumbo was born August 7, 1931 to Joseph and Margaret (Harold) Palumbo in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a longtime resident of Copperas Cove. He graduated from United States Military Academy in 1954. Mr. Palumbo married the love of his life, Marion Gates on January 21, 1956 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served as artillery officer in the United States Army serving in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam and his military awards included the Legion of Merit with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm and Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was past president of the Copperas Cove Morning Exchange Club, and Heart of Texas West Point Society. He served on the board of the Family in Crisis in the early 80’s. Mr. Palumbo served as a ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. He was treasurer of the Friends of the Copperas Cove Library. He served as President of the Board of Central Texas Library System.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Holpuch; brother, Michael Palumbo.
 
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Marion Adele Palumbo of Copperas Cove; sons, Patrick Lee Palumbo of Copperas Cove, Joseph Jay Palumbo and wife, Sandra of McMurray, PA, James Robert Palumbo and wife, Leilani of Fort Worth, Thomas Mark Palumbo and wife, Kristin of Bedford; daughters, Linda Kaye Krueger and husband, Michael of Neenah, WI, Judith Lynn Lattimer and husband, David of Parker , PA and Penny Sue Palumbo of Dallas; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; brothers, Patrick Palumbo, James Palumbo and John Palumbo all of Cleveland, Ohio; sister, Margaret Palumbo of Cleveland, Ohio.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church-L E D Sign fund 704 M.L. King, Jr. Drive Copperas Cove, Texas 76522 and Copperas Cove Public Library 501 South Main Street Copperas Cove, Texas 76522.
 
Services are under the direction of Crawford –Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
