John Shade Osborne Jr.

Aug. 24, 1940 ~ Feb. 8, 2017

John Osborne, 76, of Burnet, TX, passed away on February 8, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Kenvir, Kentucky, to John and Roxie Osborne. After graduating from high school, John moved to Texas with his family, then attended and graduated from Hardin Simmons University.

He was commissioned into the United States Army as an officer where he served his country with honors for 30 years and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He then served on the staff of First Baptist Church, Copperas Cove, as Minister of Education.

After the death of his first wife Jackye and their son Shade, John moved to East Lake Buchanan in 2004 and enjoyed fishing with his brother Jimmy.

He was a member of the Eastlake Fellowship Church, East Lake Buchanan, Burnet, TX. In 2015, John became pastor of the church and served in that position until the time of his death.

After moving to Burnet, John met and married Connie Carter.

They loved serving in their church, living the peaceful life on the lake and spending time with their daughters and families: Sherry Osborne Farrow and husband Tony; Chris Carter Coulter and husband Ben; and Beth Carter Busbee and husband David. One of the best joys of all was enjoying their grandchildren: Jack Dennis, Brady Dennis, Carly and Bailey Coulter, Tabetha Williams and husband Derek, Carter Busbee and a new great-grandson Zackery Williams.

John was the president of the Automatic 8th Veterans Association and was dedicated in planning memorable reunions for the association.

He was currently working on the 50th Year Anniversary of the unit being deployed to Vietnam from Ft. Sill, OK, where a monument to the unit will be dedicated in June.

Above all, serving God was John’s passion. He loved ministering to his deacons, serving his church family and reaching out to the community. He planned his sermons with diligence to honor God and disciple those attending church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and son Shade, sisters Teena Harrington and Betty Parham and brother Jim Davies.

Along with his immediate family, John is survived by his nieces and their families.

The funeral service was held at Eastlake Fellowship Church on Monday, February 13, with burial in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX,on Tuesday, February 14th

“When you look for me, look around the throne, I’ll be singing with the angel band.” John is now before the throne of Almighty God, worshipping Him.
