Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy scholarships awarded by VFW.

After sifting through the multiple submissions for the annual Voice of Democracy and Patirot’s Pen essay contest, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8577 presented scholarships to the winners during a luncheon Saturday, while also honoring three teachers of the year from the Copperas Cove Independent School district. Copperas Cove senior Mikayla Miller took first place in the high school division with Ashley Taylor taking second in the Voice of Democracy essay contest where each participant delivered a three to fiveminute oral essay on why veterans are important to our nation’s history and future.
