Soldier to star in ‘Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge’

Colton Smith is one of eight male competitors starring in Sunday night’s premier of “Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge.”
 
The episode will air at 6 p.m. on the CMT network.
 
During the show, retired wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin pits eight elite athletes against each other in tests of strength, stamina and endurance. The last one standing will attempt to conquer the Skullbuster obstacle course for a chance to win $10,000.
 
Smith, 27, an Army staff sergeant and is a combatives instructor with more than nine years of military service.
 
Also specialist in mixed martial arts, the Iowa native is no stranger to competitions like the Broken Skull Challenge. In 2012, he won season 16 of Ultimate Fighter.
 
Although Smith didn’t reveal the outcome of Sunday night’s episode, he said he would invest any winnings in his active wear clothing company, Enlisted Nine (enlistednine.com).
 
Smith is currently ranked number five in the UFC World Series of Fighting and has been a professional mixed martial arts fighter since 2009.
 
He said his faith and his family keeps him able to train, work with his soldiers and compete at events like this one, which he competes on his own time during leave from the military.
 
Next up for Smith is a competition for the WSOF in Las Vegas in April, which is scheduled to air on the NBC Sports Network.
 
Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge features world-renowned athletic contenders from across the obstacle course racing world including Spartan and CrossFit, power lifters, professional athletes, MMA fighters and everyday heroes.

Steve ‘Stone Cold’ Austin is a six-time World Wrestling Federation Champion and 2009 WWE Hall of Fame inductee and hosts two shows for CMT, Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Challenge and Redneck Island. When not hanging out on the 2,100-plus-acre Broken Skull Ranch in South Texas, Austin lives in Marina del Rey, Calif. with his wife, Kristin, and their three Labradors.
