The Copperas Cove Retired Teachers Association was on hand at Clements/Parsons Elementary School on Monday morning to hand out free books to all of the kindergartners at that campus. In fact, district wide, the Association handed out over 600 books to every kindergartner in the district over the past week. Marianna McDonnell, who spent her entire career working for CCISD, and B.J. Taylor, who put in 32 years, 16 of those at the district, brought in 134 books for the school. Kindergartners lined up in the library and eagerly went from table to table, looking for their favorite book to take home and keep. The Retired Teachers Association fund raises every month for this event with either cash or book donations at their meetings. Also, some funds are raised from memorial gifts. It was difficult to tell who was having the most fun during this event. Mc Donnell and Taylor were happily helping students pick out their book and the children were excited to be getting them One little one asked, “Is it Christmas?” This is an annual event for the association and the school district and they hope to be able to continue it in the future.
