Teens dove for discs of dough and generally had a good time at Tuesday’s dough show.

The dough show, put on by Domino’s, was the Copperas Cove Public Library’s way of rewarding teenagers for meeting their summer reading goals. The teens also got free pizza and drinks after the show. The library’s Summer Reading Program has been going on throughout the summer, and the kids’ and teens’ reading has finally paid off. The teenagers celebrated on Tuesday while the younger kids celebrated on Thursday.

Michael Bouvier, a district manager for Domino’s, said they love doing the dough shows. He said his company thought that doing the dough shows was a great thing for the community and for the kids. He said having the shows as a reward is a great thing for the kids to work toward.

Even the teenagers couldn’t help but be excited as the pizza pros tossed and twirled bits of dough throughout the air, occasionally tossing discs of dough into the audience.

For the show, Bouvier said there are only three rules. Have fun, don’t eat the dough, and keep watch because dough will be flying and it might land on your head.

“I love doing the shows,” said Brandon Hennessee, who works for Domino’s. “It’s a lot of fun, and it makes everyone really happy. And they get to eat pizza after. What could be better than that?”

After the dough show, tables were set up so that the teenagers could shape, toss, and even throw their own pizza dough.

“It’s fun. They’re having a good time,” said Christyn Vincent who brought her three children, Christoffer (12), Patrick (10), and Sofie (7) to the event. “I love that the library has all of these things for them to do over the summer.”

Patrick said that he thought the dough show was “awesome” and said that he especially enjoyed getting to catch the flying dough.

“It’s been pretty fun,” said Chassitti Frost (15) as she kneaded the dough. “I like playing with the squishy dough.”

Martha Dye, as in years past, was in charge of the Summer Reading Program. Dye said that she feels like this year’s reading program was successful. She said that it’s good for the teenagers because they get to read what they want to read.

“Kids came out and had a good time this summer,” said Library Director, Kevin Marsh. “We hope they come back for the program in the fall.”

Thursday, September 15, from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. the Copperas Cove Public Library will host the Teen Manga-Pizza-Anime-Gaming-Reading Club in the library’s meeting room. Teens from 11-18 are welcome to attend the group meeting (and future group meetings) for free pizza, soft drinks, to play multiplayer Wii games, and the chance to check out the latest additions to the library’s manga and youth fiction titles.
