The parent and student volunteers with Project Graduation 2016 raised just over $2,500 during their gift wrapping event at the Copperas Cove Wal-Mart before Christmas.

The group still has a way to go before the big event to be held on graduation night, June 3.

They don’t have much of a lull in fundraising activities. On January 29, the students will be holding a special Taping of Principals to Wall at the high school.

“We will do it at the high school in main gym during a special pep rally of sorts,” said Katrina Clemons, one of the Project Graduation volunteer leaders. “Purchasing of duct tape is open to all that wish to participate. We are pre-selling raffle tickets. Each raffle ticket is $1 and is redeemable the day of event for one foot of duct tape to use to place on principal of your choosing. We are selling tickets during the student lunch hours every day up to day of the event.”

Pancake breakfast tickets are $8 each and are available in advance or day of event at the door.

“Then on January 30 at the Fort Hood main commissary we will be bagging groceries for tips from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.”

The group will be back at Applebees in Copperas Cove on Saturday, in Feb. 6 to hold another all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for $8 a person, with tickets available in advance or at the door.

Funds raised from all events will be used for food, games, door prizes and more for the graduating seniors. Project Graduation is a nationwide movement that began in 1979 as a response to casualties that occurred during graduation season because of drugs and alcohol. Parent volunteers in the community are planning a secure, prize-filled, and fun-filled night for the seniors of CCHS. The all-night party lasts until the morning after graduation.
