Optimist Club discusses Music At The Gap, thrift store

The Copperas Cove Optimist International Club met on July 22 at the Optimist Club Secondhand Thrift Store. President Sandor Vegh called the meeting to order and welcomed the club’s newest members. Those in attendance were given an opportunity to review the previous minutes. Next, Vegh shared the progress of the upcoming Music at the Gap Reloaded event benefiting the Copperas Cove Boys and Girls Club. The Optimist Club is a sponsor of the Music at the Gap Reloaded, which will take place on August 13 at the Civic Center. Tickets for the event are $25 and are available at Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce, Brand Financial Services, and the Boys and Girls Club of Copperas Cove.
 
Treasurer Triss Lemire then shared the progress of the Optimist Club’s Secondhand Store that is operated by members of the Copperas Cove Optimist International Club and volunteers. The primary mission of the not-for-profit thrift store includes serving families of children stricken with cancer or other major health concerns, children’s hospitals, families with severe hardships, and at-risk students. Additional benefits of the Optimist Club Secondhand Store includes providing resources to local organizations, awarding scholarships to select Copperas Cove High School seniors, providing supplies for community recreational sports and donating to the Copperas Cove Public Library. The club also redistributes donated items to families in crisis, teachers in need of classroom resources, military families just entering the community in need of household goods, and organization that support the community. 
 
Some of the merchandise sold at the store comes from generous individuals, leftover garage sale items and other organizations. The shop sells items such as clothes, household goods, decorative items, seasonal items, furniture and more. The store is located in the Cove Terrace Shopping Center, and hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
 
During new business, the club unanimously agreed to present a $1,000 check to the Miracle Network. The check presentation will take place on August 10. The club also agreed to donate $150 to the Friends of the Copperas Cove Public Library. Finally, the club unanimously agreed to donate $100 for the “Stuff the Bus” project designed to provide school supplies to students in need.
 
Vegh closed the meeting and reminded members of the new meeting time, the second Friday of every month at 10 a.m. The club will meet at the Optimist Club Secondhand Thrift Store located at the Cove Terrace Shopping Center.
