For what has become the largest festival pageant in the state of Texas in only three years and one of the top new events in Texas for 2015 according to the Texas Festival and Events Association, 157 contestants took to the stage in Lea Ledger Auditorium for the Rabbit Fest Scholarship Pageant on Saturday.

Boys and girls, young ladies and women stepped up for a shot at a total of $50,000 in scholarships and prizes, with 19 winners crowned. Manning Homes and McDonald’s presented the pageant, with a myriad of businesses sponsoring prizes such as engraved glass platters for winners, spa days for contestants nine and older, flowers, savings bonds and scholarships, as well as gift certificates to area businesses and beyond.

Contestants came from not only the Copperas Cove, Kempner and Gatesville area, but Fort Hood, Killeen, Harker Heights, Nolanville and Belton. Those ages nine and up are required to have a platform of service for the next year, during which the reigning royalty will participate in a myriad of community service projects.
