M.I.M.E.S. camp feeds desire to become firefighters

By DAVID MORRIS

A select group of incoming eighth graders from Copperas Cove Independent School District have spent the last week training with emergency responders from the Copperas Cove Fire Department as part of the ninth annual Mentoring Industrious Minds & Educating Students fire camp and are set to graduate from the program today with a ceremony in the training room at Central Fire Station starting at 1 p.m. “This has been a good experience for the kids; it has opened their eyes to firefighting and EMS and gives them a broad idea of what we do day in and day out,” said Captain Carla Polidoro of the CCFD. “They have learned camaraderie, discipline and team work.”
