Local club, bands joining together for benefit

By LYNETTE SOWELL

When Copperas Cove High School freshman Shelby Fletcher was killed in an ATV accident on October 21, her family was devastated by her loss and are still mourning the loss of the choir student and volunteer with the Citizens Fire and Public Safety Volunteer Association.

Shelby was laid to rest in the Killeen Memorial Park. However, her family hasn’t been able to purchase a headstone.

Shelby’s parents have raised approximately $2,000 of the $7,000 cost for the headstone, which cannot be ordered until the entire amount is paid.

With the help of local friends and businesses, Shelby’s family is working to raise funds to pay for Shelby’s headstone at a benefit tomorrow to be held at Joker’s Southern Nights.

Shelby’s mother, Kim Fletcher, was the previous entertainment director at Dave’s Ice House, and said Jack and Andrea Thompson, owners of Joker’s Southern Nights, are longtime friends who stepped up to host the event on behalf Shelby’s family.

The event kicks off at 4 p.m. with barbecue plates on sale, costing $10 for adults, and $5 hot dog plates for children. There will be raffle prizes, a silent auction and a 50/50 auction. This kid- and family-friendly event is open to the public.

Bands will take the stage at Joker’s Southern Nights starting at 9 p.m., with music by Mo Blues Band, Rare Dog, Jon and Faith Austin, Back Creek Band, and Catfish Daniels Band.

Joker’s Southern Nights is located at 301 Joes Rd.
