KCCB Waterway cleanup set for Saturday

All volunteers are welcome for Saturday’s annual waterway cleanup, sponsored by Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful.

The event lasts from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., and those interested in pitching in should meet at the Town Square shopping center near G.C. Services.

Water, doughnuts and T-shirts will be given to participants. Trash bags and pickers, along with waders for those willing to step into the waters will be provided for the family-friendly event. In the past, as many as three generations of one family have vounteered.

Each spring, KCCB selects waterways within the city that need some cleaning up of litter. With recent storms having filled local waterways, Saturday’s event should have plenty of trash for the picking.

The targeted areas of focus on Saturday could include as many as two spots, with Heritage Park creek will being the main area of cleanup.

KCCB will also focus efforts on the creek at City Park if there are enough volunteers who come to the event.

The cleanup is one of several events held by KCCB during the Great American Cleanup, a nationwide initiative by Keep America Beautiful, of which KCCB is an affiliate. KCCB is also an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful.

Events like this enable KCCB to maintain its status on the state level and the community’s participation in events like the waterway cleanup helped KCCB win the Governor’s Community Achievement Award in 2013. This year, the group plans to build on its past success by giving back to the community.
