Veteran service dog leads troops through campus of Fairview/Miss Jewell

By DAVID MORRIS

Leading the troop of veterans through the halls of the Fairview/Miss Jewell campus, retired service dog Ralf and his handler Aimee Taggart served as Grand Marshal for the Veterans Day parade Monday. Ralf, a three-year-old German shepherd, trained in narcotics and explosives detection, saw limited action after losing his teeth and now suffers from arthritis in his front legs joined Taggart and her family after retiring at a young age. “He didn’t see much action because of his age,” said Taggart. “He was injured while out on patrol. My daughters brought home a flyer from school welcoming all veterans to be honored and be recognized as well.”
