Fourth graders get hands on experience with goats

By DAVID MORRIS

Tying together the math and science lessons for the day, fourth graders from Fairview/ Miss Jewell campus learned the process of milking goats to fill the needs of drinking and in soap making. Toting a pair of goats to school with her, fourth grade science teacher Nicole Sisco, owner of Hoffchen Farms demonstrated how she milks her pygmy goats to provide hand crafted goat milk soap and other natural products. “This interactive learning gets the students out of the class room and hands on putting their knowledge to the test,” said Sisco. “The milk that I get from the goats is enough for my family to drink and make cheese out of so we never have to buy dairy from the store.”
