The Florida Boys gospel group to perform at Cove Theatre

The Florida Boys gospel group will perform Sunday evening at 6 p.m. in the historic Cove Theatre on Avenue D.
 
The Cove Theatre serves as one of the Refuge Ministries’ church campuses, and there is no charge for the concert which is open to the public, but an offering will be taken.
 
In existence since 1947, the Florida Boys have recorded more than 100 albums and the late Elvis Presley was one of the group’s fans. The original lineup appeared at the first gospel quartet concert ever held in New York’s Carnegie Hall.
 
The group has past No. 1 hits like “Standing On The Solid Rock”, “When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind”, “Lead Me To The Altar” and “I Lean On You Lord”.
 
In July 2007, group members Les Beasley, Glen Allred and Derrell Stewart decided to retire and sang their last song together as The Florida Boys in September 2007 at the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, Ky. Beasley, Allred and Stewart passed their mantle to the present group in front of the audience of 10,000. The current Florida Boys quintet continues the Florida Boys legacy which began nearly 70
