Dozens of runners came out to raise money for child abuse prevention at the 2nd Annual Mayfest Color Run held at Ogletree Gap Saturday morning.

The Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove organized the run as part of their fundraising efforts during the month of April to raise money for organizations such as AWARE Central Texas, Hope Pregnancy Center and Communities in Schools. AWARE Central Texas, one of three centers for abuse prevention in Texas, is the only agency in the region focused solely on prevention, according to their website.

Dennis Ayres, president of the Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove, said the National Exchange Club designated child abuse prevention as a national project for all Exchange Clubs in 1979. Every year in the month of April, the Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove has a large fundraising event, Ayres said, including a bake sale held earlier this` month. The high school equivalent of the Exchange Club, known as the Excel Club, also does fundraisers. The money raised is pooled together and then donated at the Installation of Officers, where they change officers and donate the money raised to different organizations, Ayres said.
