The children were smiling at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School on Friday as they witnessed the unveiling of a Buddy Bench in the back of the school.

Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School Principal Leah Miller and members of the school’s Parent Teacher Organization cut the ribbon on the new Buddy Bench. Miller told the students that this bench was a place that new students can go and make a new friends. The students were charged with stepping up to the plate to make sure anyone who needed a friend, had one.

The Buddy Bench initiative began in York, Penn. when Christian Bucks, a second-grader at Roundtown Elementary School, noticed that some of his classmates felt lonely during recess.
