Cove House raises $2,200 by auction for shelter

By DAVID MORRIS

Hundreds gathered Monday night to show their support for Copperas Cove’s only emergency homeless shelter, bidding on over a dozen items in the silent auction to raise funds during the fourth annual fundraising banquet. Collecting $2,265 with the silent auction alone, board members called for pledges from the community to help fund the homeless shelter and free clinic over the next year as newly appointed director Brian Hawkins shared his vision for 2015. “We have staff at Cove House we can’t afford to pay because if we paid them what they are worth we would be broke, we are fortunate to have those that come up and work with what we have,” Board Chairman Tim O’Neal said. “Brian (Hawkins) has a heart for the lost, the hurting and the homeless of our
community.”
