Daniel West made his senior year one to remember.  At the helm of the local FFA chapter, he led as both a role model and a peer.

Under West's leadership, the Copperas FFA Chapter was honored at the FFA Area VIII Association Convention where it received four area level plaques for excelling in Homesite Evaluation, Environmental and Natural Resources, Agricultural Advocacy and Agricultural Sales. While at the convention, West competed in the Sr. Prepared Public Speaking- Animal Science event placing 2nd and earning the chapter another plaque.

West prepared and gave a six-minute speech over the Colony Collapse Disorder, a very serious problem pertaining to bees in our nation's agriculture.

"It was fun putting this all together. I've never done public speaking before and was so happy with how I did," West said.

The chapter was awarded 12 banners at the Cen-Tex District banquet last week. The contest teams receiving banners were Agricultural Advocacy, Sr. Chapter Conducting, Sr. Creed Speaking, Jr. Quiz, Job Interview, Land, Homesite Evaluation, Environmental and Natural Resources, Agricultural Sales and Dairy Cattle.

Two Cove chapter members were also elected and installed as 2015-2016 Cen-Tex District officers. Sophomore Caden McAnally was elected as secretary and Kayla Ayala, also a 10th grader, took office as the sentinel.

"It is going to be a wonderful year getting to be a leader not only at the chapter level, but also at the district level,” McAnally said. “This opportunity will allow me to make new friends from across the state while I continue to improve my leadership, public speaking, and team-work skills."

FFA Advisor Amanda Anderson said CCISD is proud of all of the success the chapter has had this past school year year.

“The students have worked hard and it shows,” she said. “We are looking forward to continued success next year."
