Children’s singer songwriter Joe McDermott made a visit to the Copperas Cove Public Library this past Thursday to treat local area kids to his array of children’s songs and fun.

Originally from Chicago, McDermott said he was fascinated by music at an early age. His dad gave him a coffee can and drumsticks to play with and a musical person was born. Following that, McDermott and his brother played music together as a duo. The first performance they had together was playing a song in front of the crowd at a Harlem Globetrotters game when Joe was only five years old. In the 4th grade, he played drums for his brother’s rock band.

Later on, McDermott moved from Chicago to Austin where he turned his focus to fine arts and began painting. Meanwhile, he played in a few rock bands while attending the University of Texas at Austin, from which he earned a degree in Fine Arts.
