The Coryell County Rainbow Room is in a way-back section of the local Texas Department of Human Services building on Casa Drive, but it provides a beacon of hope and a feeling of home for the abused and neglected children it serves. On Tuesday morning, some of the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors made their way to the Rainbow Room and presented some of its volunteers with a check for $329.44 and a shopping cart full of donated clothes, undergarments, shoes and stuffed animals. The ambassadors recently spent a Saturday morning in front of Wal-Mart and gathered donations for their cause. When a child—or children—involved in a case of abuse or neglect are removed from their homes, the Rainbow Room volunteers are available 24 hours a day to show up and supply children with clothing, toiletry items, and a stuffed animal or toy before the children go into foster care. Rainbow Room volunteers Janie French, Gloria Schmitz and Rita Burgess were on hand to receive the donations along with the check from the chamber. The ladies agreed they all enjoy being able to shop for funds, but receiving the new donated items will help supply comfort for children during a rough patch in their young lives.
