Sheffield speaks out about trip to border

By DAVID MORRIS

Dressed in medical scrubs, Dr. J.D. Sheffield, candidate for District 59 State Representative from Gatesville, shared stories from his recent visit to the Texas, Mexico border near the Rio Grande Valley to learn about immigration reform and the problems that face the state. “The visit was an eye opening experience to say the least,” Sheffield said. “The numbers of children coming over are down for now, but we have a long way to go in securing our border.” Sharing a story from an aerial patrol, Sheffield witnessed three men on a jet ski moving up and down the river stopping to drop men off returning to pick up more to disperse along the banks. “The drug cartels drop spies up and down the river with transmitters to let others know when it is safe to cross into Texas,” he said.
