Area artist David Akers, is showing his artwork at Frames & Things’ First Friday Art After Dark, which goes from 6:00 until 9 p.m. tonight. Akers’ work features vivid and colorful images from everyday life, to include portraiture, sports figures, images of nature, still life, as well as urban landscapes. He predominantly works in pastels on sanded paper. His work will be on display throughout the month of April at Frames & Things, and will also be for sale. “I envision some of the old masters from five or six centuries ago who developed their skill simply by painting over a lifetime of love for art and without the benefit of YouTube or an art degree,” Akers, who paints under the name D. Rogale, stated on his Fine Art America profile. “They learned by doing the thing they wished to someday master. That is my path. Because of that, my style with pastel paints is very unique and different, and that’s OK with me. To me, art is like a beautiful woman that holds a doctorate; so much more than just a pretty face. It’s something that adorns your inner sanctum; your home. It’s something you walk by 20-30 times per day, if not more, and while you may think you don’t notice it hanging there all of the time, your subconscious mind misses nothing,” Akers wrote. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served, and saxophonist Rodney Howell Jr. will provide live music. Patrons of the arts, wine lovers and live music enthusiasts are encouraged to attend. The event is open to the public and free for adults only. Art After Dark is held the first Friday each month and highlights the work of local artists. Frames & Things is located at 216 Cove Terrace Shopping Center.
