The City of Copperas Cove invites residents to get better acquainted with the city’s departments and have a little fun during Wednesday afternoon’s “Meet the City” event from 3 until 5 p.m. at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, located at 1206 West Avenue B.

Every city department is hosting its own booth, with fun for adults and children alike. interactive booth designed to educate adults and children alike on the operations of municipal government. Activities include interactive tables, equipment displays, games, prizes, snacks and refreshments.

The city’s public information officer, Kevin Keller, said this is a great way to not only have fun, but get questions answered about city’s operations and the way things work, as many of the department heads will be at the booths.

Keller said the city will have a fire truck on hand, along with other public safety equipment for kids of all ages to explore.

Last year’s Meet the City had drawings for door prizes and a chance to win prizes at the department booths. Kids had the chance to meet McGruff the Crimestoppers dog and explore a mock crime scene and do investigations of their own. This year, CCISD, the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce will also have booths and displays.

The event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday’s event will also serve as a celebration for Copperas Cove’s 137th birthday.
